Cyber risk: governments are the sector most affected by cyber threats

The recent Microsoft Digital Defense Report highlighted a critical situation regarding global cybersecurity, showing how the public sector has become the main target of attacks.

Based on the data collected in this year's report, government agencies and services represent the sector most affected by cyber threats in 2026. This sector indeed recorded twenty-seven percent of the total observed activity.

This is a significant increase compared to the previous year. In 2025, in fact, the share of cyber threat activity against governments stood at seventeen percent, highlighting a growth in the vulnerability of these institutions.
