GhostMap: the Android flaw that freezes the smartphone

A vulnerability identified by Bitdefender causes Android smartphones to enter a continuous crash loop through the installation of modified apps.

Bitdefender Labs researchers have identified a security flaw named GhostMap that affects Android devices.

This vulnerability allows a specially modified application to send the smartphone into a continuous lockup, defined as a crash loop, immediately after installation. The problem occurs even if the user never opens the application and grants it no permissions.

The malicious application contains no code and never needs to be executed to cause the phone to malfunction.
