Web notifications: Microsoft analyzes abuse by attackers
Scammers are turning useful browser notifications into a tool to deceive users.
Website notifications were originally designed to help users stay informed. In fact, this tool allows users to receive alerts for a new message, remind them of an upcoming event, or share important updates from a service deemed reliable.
However, scammers are starting to exploit and transform this useful browser feature for their own malicious purposes, using it to deceive people browsing the web. An analysis shows how the Scareware blocker feature was able to identify and shed light on the abuse of notifications for harmful purposes.
